Please note that I am not able to start with new clients at this time.
I approach this work from a developmental perspective, which means I am continually working with you to recognize and build from strengths and needs as they are happening in your life.
I believe that:
~ Therapy should be about who you are, not who your therapist is.
~ Therapy should be client centered and strengths-based.
~ Therapy is a non-judgmental and fluid process.
~ The therapist should be versatile and able to adjust the therapeutic modality to meet your needs.
~ Informed consent, or your right to understand what we are doing in therapy and why, is a foundational element of the therapeutic relationship.
My work with families is focused on finding a balance that's healthy for every member of the system. I'm trained in a number of techniques for increasing supportive parenting, and I have experience facilitating play therapy and narrative therapy for children or adolescents working through developmental or trauma-related issues. I have worked with many families in different stages of development- resource (foster) families, adoptive families, reuniting families, families saying goodbye, and families working to stay connected during separation.
My work with couples is nonreligious, and focuses on successful communication, relational skill building, and working through family-of-origin issues together using systems theories. We will check in regularly about what your shared goals for your relationship is
With individuals, I utilize a number of techniques that are all grounded in a compassionate and validating therapeutic relationship. Some individuals prefer very goal driven work, some prefer more process oriented work, and some are looking for a specific treatment protocol. We will identify our style together in your first few sessions, and then check in to make sure it is working for you over time.
My professional disclosure (linked below) offers more information on my training and experience.
Anti-racist work is inherent in my practice, and I engage with all clients where they are in their process of healing, learning, or growing- and I believe that White supremacy and racism are public health concerns and should be addressed on all levels. Please also review the client policies linked below to get a clear understanding of some of the logistical elements of working together.
